Six Bordeaux Communes Case
Wines included
Château Fonréaud La Légende, Listrac-Médoc 2012
A harmoniously balanced, fully mature left bank claret from vines just outside the Listrac appellation. The Bordeaux has a cedary bouquet, with appealing sweet-savoury notes on the palate. Exceptionally good value.
Château Le Clos du Notaire, Côtes de Bourg 2017
These vines are brilliantly sited, directly across the Gironde from Margaux. The class was evident in our Wine Championship tastings; or to put it another way, as one buyer did, ‘This. Smells. Awesome!’ Attractive savoury fruit and fine, grainy tannins mean that this will stand up to food brilliantly.
Château Magence, Graves 2010
A soft, perfumed blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot displaying notes of violets and leather, with satisfyingly round tannins and a smooth finish. Fully mature claret from the top-notch 2010 Bordeaux vintage.
Château Monconseil Gazin, Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux 2018
A generous and velvety Bordeaux red made by the highly regarded Jean-Michel Baudet. Two-thirds merlot with the balance cabernet sauvignon and a splash of malbec for added richness.
Château Ampélia, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux 2014
A classy wine from a small, well-run estate close to Saint-Emilion. Mainly merlot, but with some excellent old-vine cabernet franc, which adds depth and complexity. Beautifully balanced Bordeaux.
Château du Courlat Cuvée Jean Baptiste, Lussac Saint-Emilion 2011
This is a little-known gem for wine drinkers who like fine, well-built claret at a reasonable price, and which ages extremely well. It is the cream of the crop of du Courlat which is owned, like Clos du Clocher, by the respected Bourotte family.
