Thaya National Park St Laurent 2023
Based in the Czech region of Moravia, bordering Austria, where it shares similar loess and granite soil, producing a red that is fresh, light bodied and so drinkable. Expect crunchy red berry fruits with hints of violet and crushed strawberries combined with melt-in-the-mouth tannins. The Thaya winery is situated in the sub region of Znojmo, one hour north of Kamptal in Austria, and benefits from a more marginal climate than its neighbour. Wines from the region maintain great acidity and freshness, as well as relatively low alcohols. The Thaya winery have won lots of awards, including their 31-year-old winemaker, Jakub Smroka, who won Winegrowers Association Winemaker of the year in 2021. The winery's proximity to the Podyjí National Park as well as the River Thaya running through the region helps achieve freshness in the grapes and resulting wine.

Central European fire on the nose and then smooth, fresh, slightly rhubarb-like fruit on the palate. Lots of acidity! This needs food. JancisRobinson.com
