The Joy of Wine Experience Tasting Kit
Wines included
The Society's Cava Reserva Brut NV
For the second year in a row, some of the loftiest scores were bestowed upon one of our lowest-price sparklers at our annual Wine Champions blind tastings. Made in the same way as Champagne by the small family house of Sumarroca, this effervescent bargain’s fragrant appley flavour and brioche-like richness proved irresistible.
The Society's French Pinot Noir 2020
A pinot from the Languedoc to delight the senses: fresh, round and fruity with a hint of cherry and plenty of charm. Best drunk a little cool.
The Society's Prosecco
A delicious grower’s Prosecco from the best vineyards belonging to the Adami family. Pure, light and eminently sippable.
The Society's Saar Riesling 2019
Real brightness, an absolute classic style’ was taster Joanna Locke MW’s verdict on this fresh, precise German riesling made by the team at von Kesselstat Its peachy fruit, tingling freshness and modest alcohol will prove their worth on Boxing Day with cold cuts, savoury egg dishes and piquant salads. A Wine Champion in 2022.
The Society's Claret 2020
This friendly and fresh-tasting claret is one of The Wine Society's most consistently popular wines. Supplied for over a quarter of a century by the family-owned Maison Sichel, the bespoke blend varies from vintage to vintage, but merlot takes the lead role, and the wine is made without any oak to avoid masking its bright red and black-fruit flavours. This is made to be drunk on its own or with a wide variety of dishes. The stylish new label features three Greek muses, inspired by those that adorn one of the city’s great landmarks, the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux opera house. Please note: We've taken the step to remove the capsule (the covering on the top of the bottle) from this wine, as part of our sustainability strategy. This will have no adverse effect on the quality of the wine but reduces waste. The wine is also bottled in a light-weight glass bottle (420g or less) that reduces our carbon emissions, as it requires less materials to produce and less energy to transport.
The Society's Australian Shiraz 2020
Aside from being good people, Bleasdale also make wines that consistently overperform, even in more challenging vintages. This is a prime example. It's wonderfully vibrant, bold, generous and fruity, with flavours of black cherry, blueberry and blackberry.
The Society's Chilean Limarí Sauvignon Blanc 2021
This is a crisp Chilean sauvignon blanc with blackcurrant-leaf aromas and a refreshing palate. Produced by Tabalí from cool vineyards in Limarí.
The Society's White Burgundy 2021
'The quality is brilliant' said Director of Wine Pierre Mansour, and this clean, precise, stone-fruited white sailed through as a Wine Champion in our tastings. With lovely texture and balance atop a vibrant palate, this is benchmark Mâcon-Villages.
The Society's White Rioja 2020
A classically styled white Rioja made from this great Spanish region's traditional white grapes (mostly viura with some malvasia), with a proportion aged in barrel. It is lemony gold in colour with aromas that are spicy and nutty, rather than fruity.
The Society's French Syrah 2021
This is a northern Rhône syrah, with elements from both banks including an element from Brézème, a micro-region a few miles to the south of Crozes-Hermitage. It offers plenty of colour and fresh-tasting blueberry fruit with a touch of spice.
