The Society's 150th Anniversary Meursault Narvaux (Louis Jadot) 2018

White Wine from France - Burgundy
4.545454500 star rating 11 Reviews
Louis Jadot are widely regarded as having one of the finest winemaking reputations in Burgundy and were an obvious choice of partner for this special celebratory bottle. 2018 was a very good vintage for white Burgundy and Narvaux is a fine, hillside vineyard. This is a rich yet fresh-tasting Meursault. Round and ample with good supporting structure and grip. Matured about 18 months in barrel, and the fruit and oak combine harmoniously to produce an aromatic wine mingling honeysuckle-scented fruit with some vanilla from the oak. Decant 20 minutes before serving. For more on the story of this wine, please scroll down.

More on the wine

Jadot are at once innovative and traditional in their methods of making white wines. They frequently part-block the malolactic fermentation to retain higher acidity and balance this by keeping most wines in barrel on the lees for a traditional 18 months, when many producers have moved to 12 months. Such a schedule involves being able to keep two harvests in barrel simultaneously which requires space and incurs cost. But allowing the wine two winters in barrel on its lees develops an extra complexity and greater balance.

This wine comes from their own vineyards, Domaine Louis Jadot, which they manage and from which they harvest the grapes. We are delighted they agreed to bottle this Meursault Narvaux to celebrate our long working relationship and The Society's 150th Anniversary.’

A very good Meursault, as you would expect from a major force such as Jadot. Shows the ripeness of the 2018 vintage but manages to balance this with a surprising amount of freshness and vitality. Has the expected buttery, orange-zest notes but with bright acidity underneath. Certainly not blowsy.
