The Wine Society's Generation Series Sicilian White 2023

2.000000000 star rating 6 Reviews
Our Generation Series of wines made to celebrate our 150th anniversary year has turned its attention to the future of wine and this wine exemplifies everything we think is exciting about Sicilian whites. A blend of indigenous grecanico, moscato and grillo, this shows great poise, with citrus fruit and subtle layers of seashell and salted mineral developing on the palate. Delicious on its own but designed for food. For more on the story of this wine, please scroll down.

More on the wine

Two of the biggest wine phenomena of recent times, pinot grigio and Prosecco, came out of Italy, and we believe it is the country most likely to be behind the next big wine trend too. Our spotlight is on southern Italian whites. We chose to work with Planeta, pioneers in Sicily, and founding members of SOStain, (the Sicilian sustainability certification). They were instrumental in getting a glass manufacturer to return to the island and have been influential in highlighting the importance of biodiversity in vineyards. We have always been impressed with Sicily's whites, which retain such good acidity, nerve and tension, despite the increasingly warm summers and its southerly location. Vines here are already well-adapted to heat and drought, shutting down when the temperature rises. The heat is also mitigated by cooling sea breezes and planting at altitude.
