Único Reserva Especial is not defined by a single year. It is Vega Sicilia’s most traditional expression of the region, with purposeful multi-vintage blending process that has all but disappeared. The philosophy behind this wine follows Iturriaga’s guiding principle: balancing the strength of great vintages, the energy of a younger one and the subtlety of a cooler more refined year to ensure seamless continuity of style. The 2026 release is a blend of three exceptional harvests: the structure of the warm 2011, the depth and concentration of 2012, and the finesse and luminosity of the cool 2014 vintage. Under the guidance of Gonzalo Iturriaga, these elements are woven together with precision, prioritising harmony and complexity over the dominance of any one year. The result is a wine that is far greater than the sum of its parts. Made from a pre-phylloxera clone of tempranillo, with a discreet 4% cabernet sauvignon, the wine opens with powerful aromatics of peppermint, mountain herbs and sweet cinnamon spice. On the palate, layers of black cherry, cassis and blueberry unfold, edged with raspberry freshness and grounded by mineral, earthy undertones. Approachable on release yet built for remarkable longevity, this is a wine designed to evolve slowly and beautifully over decades.
