The 2016 of this iconic and legendary Spanish red is a vintage not to be missed. Vega Sicilia Único is Spain’s most legendary red wine, a 'first growth' if you like, admired for its authority, depth and capacity to age gracefully over decades. The cooler conditions of the outstanding 2016 vintage lend the wine a heightened sense of elegance, with freshness and finesse layered amongst the hall-mark power and precision it is famed for. Though still youthful, the wine already shows some evolution with dried herbs, pine resin and a subtle, church-wood character with a distinctly earthy woodland inflection. Definition takes precedence over density, with damson and blackberry fruit at the core, with the oak taking a more supporting role in this vintage. Pure, powerful and precise. Drink this year to 2050. 14.5%
