Vulpes Wines Cana Cabernet Sauvignon, Polkadraai Hills 2024

Red Wine from South Africa - Coastal Region
0 star rating 0 Reviews
Vulpes Wines is the exciting new venture from Nuschka de Vos, a young, talented winemaker who previously worked at the biodynamic Reyneke farm in the Polkadraai Hills. Her friendship with Johan Reyneke has given her access to a cabernet sauvignon block on the farm that she has always loved - fruit she was missing working with since leaving Reyneke and starting her own business. And so, Cana cabernet was born - a vibrant, vivid and gorgeously bright, medium-bodied red wine which will appeal to cabernet franc lovers. With aromas and flavours of blackcurrant as well as redcurrant, wild plum and rosemary, and a pencil-shaving character, this is nimble and lithe, with chalky tannins and crunchy acidity. A fresh take on Stellenbosch cab and a UK exclusive to The Wine Society.

Minty and herbal without being green, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon shows that even the classic grapes are open to being reimagined by the young guns in the Cape. Chiselled and slightly austere with a dusting of oregano, this is a literate, unexaggerated Cabernet, the kind Michael Broadbent might have respected.
