Wolf & Woman Chenin Blanc, Swartland 2024

White Wine from South Africa - Coastal Region
0 star rating 0 Reviews
This is a thrilling Old Vine Project-certified chenin blanc from Jolandie Fouché, sourced from four different Swartland dryland bushvine vineyards, planted between 1976 and 1984. Ripe and concentrated this vintage, this has beautiful texture and depth of flavour, of yellow apple, apricots and orange zest, balanced with a revitalising acidity. For all its appealing immediacy, this is refined and balanced, carrying the quiet gravitas of old vines. Three of the vineyards are in the Paardeberg on granite while one, which makes up 30% of the blend, is from red iron-rich soils north of Malmesbury; having grown up in the Swartland, Jolandie has an intimate knowledge of the landscape here and she brings together the different soil types beautifully to deliver a wine of tension, richness and layered complexity.

Smoke, sass, satsuma, stone. Formidable intensity, striations of lime and marmalade. Stippled with moss and fern and samphire and shadow. Candied lime-peel sweetness. Curlicues of energy.
