Subtle and savoury aromas of woodsmoke and dried Mediterranean herbs combine with deep, rich blackcurrant and blackberry fruit in what is already, in its extreme youth, a quietly compelling aromatic. This 92% cabernet sauvignon, 6% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot blend may be Dominus Estate’s 'second wine' but it has all the sophistication of a grand vin, with a silky entry and elegantly sculpted tannins. It has the generosity we expect from Napa while exuding balance; it feels medium-bodied and fresh. The finish is long and mouthwatering with a dusting of cocoa powder and a twist of graphite. The 2023 vintage is deeply aromatic, revealing layers of cassis, black plum and blackberry alongside notes of iris, sweet spice, cedar and tobacco leaf. Full-bodied yet poised, the palate balances concentrated fruit with vibrant freshness and a distinctive crushed-rock minerality. Fine-grained tannins and judicious oak ageing lend texture and structure rather than weight, creating a wine of remarkable precision. A superb Dominus that will reward both patience and cellaring.
