Bannockburn 'Grigsby' Single Vineyard Geelong Chardonnay 2024
White Wine from Australia - Victoria
A wine of poise and quiet confidence, offering a pure expression of both site and vintage. Named after Lucas Grigsby, Bannockburn’s long-serving viticulturalist, the vineyard was planted to a high density with chardonnay in 2007. The nose is refined and understated, with delicate almond, hazelnut, and subtle toasted lemon peel aromas, with a meadow flower lift alongside a fine mineral edge that speaks of the vineyard’s unique site. With air more layers emerge, whispers of white peach, flint, and freshly baked sourdough. The palate is beautifully focused yet textured, walking a fine line between precision and generosity. Citrus zest, green nectarine, and saline minerality drive the core, supported by a lovely almond creaminess and a touch of nutmeg spice. The wine’s natural acidity lends energy and persistence, carrying the flavours through to an exceptionally long and detailed finish. This is a chardonnay to reward patience and air, revealing more complexity with time in the glass. An outstanding expression of the Grigsby vineyard and Bannockburn’s thoughtful winemaking, this will drink beautifully now with a few hours of decanting but has the structure to evolve gracefully for many more years.
