Alión is Vega Sicilia's selection from a number of the very best vineyards in Ribera del Duero. 2020 produced a stylish, refined and harmonious wine. Made entirely from tinto fino (tempranillo), and aged in mostly French oak and 4% in American oak, it is characterised by freshness and spicy fruit. An excellent introduction to the Vega style at a more accessible price.

Único Reserva Especial is not defined by a single year. It is Vega Sicilia’s most traditional expression of the region, with purposeful multi-vintage blending process that has all but disappeared. The philosophy behind this wine follows Iturriaga’s guiding principle: balancing the strength of great vintages, the energy of a younger one and the subtlety of a cooler more refined year to ensure seamless continuity of style. The 2026 release is a blend of three exceptional harvests: the structure of the warm 2011, the depth and concentration of 2012, and the finesse and luminosity of the cool 2014 vintage. Under the guidance of Gonzalo Iturriaga, these elements are woven together with precision, prioritising harmony and complexity over the dominance of any one year. The result is a wine that is far greater than the sum of its parts. Made from a pre-phylloxera clone of tempranillo, with a discreet 4% cabernet sauvignon, the wine opens with powerful aromatics of peppermint, mountain herbs and sweet cinnamon spice. On the palate, layers of black cherry, cassis and blueberry unfold, edged with raspberry freshness and grounded by mineral, earthy undertones. Approachable on release yet built for remarkable longevity, this is a wine designed to evolve slowly and beautifully over decades.

The 2016 of this iconic and legendary Spanish red is a vintage not to be missed. Vega Sicilia Único is Spain’s most legendary red wine, a 'first growth' if you like, admired for its authority, depth and capacity to age gracefully over decades. The cooler conditions of the outstanding 2016 vintage lend the wine a heightened sense of elegance, with freshness and finesse layered amongst the hall-mark power and precision it is famed for. Though still youthful, the wine already shows some evolution with dried herbs, pine resin and a subtle, church-wood character with a distinctly earthy woodland inflection. Definition takes precedence over density, with damson and blackberry fruit at the core, with the oak taking a more supporting role in this vintage. Pure, powerful and precise.
