Marakounis Vineyards: thrilling new flavours from Cyprus
We’re delighted to introduce Marakounis Vineyards to our range, whose wines illustrate one of The Wine Society’s founding principles: to offer our members wines ‘hitherto unknown.’ This project has made quite a name for itself in a short space of time, producing wines with a remarkable sense of place. They are made using indigenous grape varieties in complex soils, deploying a fastidious but light touch in the winery. The results are thrilling and unique, high in freshness and acidity but low in sulphur and in alcohol. Buyer Fiona Hayes has written a fascinating article about them (along with some exciting new Czech finds!), which you can read here. Don’t miss them.

Weingut Jülg: German excellence and French elegance
The best of both worlds? This unique estate has vineyards in Germany (Pfalz) and France (Alsace), is based on the border and label the wines as German! As a result, these wines offer something a little different, something the new generation, Johannes, was keen to show to the best of his ability. Having studied in Burgundy and worked at the famed Clos des Lambrays, he’s taken quality into a new dimension, including conversion to organic viticulture and producing a remarkable array of red, white and sparkling wines we can’t recommend enough.

Álvaro Palacios: a hero of Spanish wine

Like him, his Rioja is one of a kind, offering brightness and elegance seldom found in more traditional styles from this famed region.

Juliet Victor: discovering gold in Tokaj, Hungary
Another new star in a traditional region, Juliet Victor was established in 2016 and the wines are taking the world by storm. Their sweet Tokaji Szamorodni won a stunning 97 points and a Gold from Decanter, but they’re also making exceptional, racy, dry white from furmint and have just launched their first sparkling wine. All are fantastic, and we can’t wait for you to try them.
