Austria 2025

A global first, a compelling vintage and exceptional value

Austria 2025

Austria’s top single-vineyard whites are some of the best-value, most delicious and most age-worthy white wines in the world. They deliver charm, complexity and elegance far beyond their price level, making them a must-have in any wine lover’s collection. Despite being relatively under the radar compared to regions like Burgundy, the producers here have a similar approach to farming their small, fragmented single-vineyard plots, producing wines reflective of the unique terroir. In fact, Kamptal and Kremstal share a similar latitude to the very north of Burgundy, so it makes sense that these wines should draw comparison. However, because so many of the best examples are consumed within Austria, they are a little lesser known and have a much lower price tag, too.

Thanks to our excellent relationships with many of Austria’s top producers, we are able to offer Society members global first access to a range of these top wines from the outstanding 2025 vintage. This is a fantastic opportunity to secure world-class, cellarworthy white wines at their best possible price.

If you don’t know where to start, you can’t go wrong with the selection of mixed cases we have put together to help you explore!

The wines

From refreshing fridge-fillers to seriously ageworthy bottles, each of these rieslings and grüner veltliners reflects the dedication of its makers and their commitment to producing wines that express the best of Austria’s terroir. All of the wines are dry in style and stylistically span sleek, mineral-driven examples to fruit-forward, juicy expressions.

The classification system

The Austrians’ approach to classifying their quality wines has been arguably the most fastidious of any wine country in recent decades. The ÖTW (Österreichische Traditionsweingüter), today led by Michael Moosbrugger of Schloss Gobelsburg, has tasted every new release from every top vineyard of lower Austria for over 30 years, slowly defining which are the sites that have the capability to produce the finest expressions of Austrian wine.

The vintage

The 2025 vintage in Kamptal and Kremstal looked, in the run up to harvest, like it could be an all-time great. A long, even growing season delivered pristine fruit with superb balance, and those who picked early captured this remarkable quality, producing wines of crystalline purity, energy and precision. However, rain arriving mid-harvest introduced challenges, particularly for riesling. Increased botrytis (noble rot) pressure demanded strict selection in the vineyard, with producers forced to be meticulous in what they brought into the cellar. As a result, quantities are reduced, especially for riesling, but the best wines are incredibly compelling. The wines are more acidity driven and structured than the 2024s, with defined stone fruit and citrus, bright acidity and a fine, mineral line. It’s a vintage that rewarded attention to detail, and one that highlights the skill of the region’s top producers. The wines have a wonderful charm to them and there is serious class to be found.
