Casa Ferreirinha 'Callabriga' Tinto, Douro 2023

Red Wine from Portugal - Douro Valley
0 star rating 0 Reviews
The 2023 vintage is deep ruby, expressive and concentrated. Ripe strawberry, cherry and cassis combine with truffle, oak and a more lifted, fresh green-cedar note, plus a crack of black pepper. The palate is plush and structured, with velvety tannins, bright acidity and a long, harmonious finish. It’s an intense, food-loving Douro red, smartly made and with all the class you would expect from such a fine estate.Casa Ferreirinha is a particularly prestigious Portuguese producer, the first Douro estate to commit itself to still wines rather than Port and the debut release of their top wine Barca-Velha set a benchmark that has shaped the region ever since. Winemaker Luís Sottomayor ensures a consistency of freshness, finesse and tradition, drawing exclusively on Douro Superior fruit. This is a warm, schist-rich corner of the valley close to the Spanish border, where touriga franca (45%), touriga nacional (38%) and 17% tinta roriz ripen fully yet retain definition. It’s fermented in stainless steel with an extended maceration for silkier tannins, then aged for 12 months in a mix of new American and used French oak.
