London - The Great Southeast of Spain - the new Mediterranean
Discover the wines redefining Mediterranean Spain at this intimate grower tasting exploring Valencia, Alicante, Jumilla and beyond.
With generous pours, Spanish dishes from the acclaimed Camino kitchen served throughout the evening and the chance to spend real time with the winemakers themselves, this is a rare opportunity to explore one of Spain’s most exciting wine regions in depth.
For years, the wines of Spain’s south-east coast were overlooked — known more for volume than finesse. But over the past two decades, a quiet revolution has transformed the region.
Today, a new generation of growers is reclaiming old vineyards, reviving native grape varieties and producing wines of freshness, energy and unmistakable Mediterranean character.
Join us for a relaxed and immersive walkaround tasting exploring this exciting corner of Spain through 18 wines from six pioneering producers working across Valencia, Manchuela, Jumilla and Alicante.
This is a walkaround tasting with a difference. Hosted at award winning restuarant Camino, this limited capacity event will feature fewer wines and larger pours than a traditional tasting, giving you the chance to spend real time with each wine and talk directly with the producers who have made them.
Throughout the evening, freshly prepared Spanish dishes and paella will be served to showcase how the wines evolve alongside food.
Expect vibrant whites, aromatic skin-contact wines, elegant reds from old bush vines and the distinctive Mediterranean freshness that is redefining the wines of the Levante.
Food offering (per person, included in the ticket price):
2 portions from the following:
Chicken, Wild Atlantic Prawns and Green Beans Paella
Aubergine, Artichoke, Peppers and Green Beans Paella
+
Croqueta
Gilda
Patatas Bravas
The producers attending and pouring their wines are:
Pepe Mendoza — Alicante
One of the most influential figures in modern Alicante wine, Pepe Mendoza has helped redefine the region through wines rooted in old bush vines, native varieties and Mediterranean freshness. Working principally with monastrell and giró, his wines combine purity, energy and unmistakable coastal character.
Olga Sarrión / Bodega Mustiguillo — Utiel-Requena
Representing one of the most influential estates in modern Valencia, Olga Sarrión continues Mustiguillo’s pioneering work with native varieties and high-altitude vineyards around El Terrerazo. The estate has played a leading role in redefining grapes such as bobal and merseguera, producing wines that combine Mediterranean generosity with freshness, finesse and remarkable precision.
Rosalía Molina / Altolandon — Manchuela
High in the mountains of Manchuela, close to the border with Valencia, Rosalía Molina crafts wines shaped by altitude, limestone soils and extreme continental conditions. Working organically with varieties including bobal, garnacha and chardonnay, Altolandon produces wines of striking freshness, purity and mineral tension that challenge traditional perceptions of inland Spanish wine.
Fernando Pacheco / Viña Elena — Jumilla
Representing the next generation at Viña Elena, Fernando Pacheco is helping lead the estate’s evolution towards wines of greater freshness, balance and regional identity. Working with old-vine monastrell in the arid landscapes of Jumilla, the family crafts expressive Mediterranean wines that combine depth and concentration with impressive elegance and drinkability.
Pablo Calatayud / Celler del Roure — Valencia
At his historic estate in Valencia’s Alforins valley, Pablo Calatayud has become one of the leading figures in the revival of forgotten Mediterranean grape varieties including mandó, arcos and verdil. Combining ancient winemaking traditions — including fermentation in underground clay amphoras — with a fresh, modern approach, his wines are elegant, distinctive and full of energy, offering a compelling new perspective on Valencian wine.
David Carbonell & Richard Kelley MW / Colección de Toneles Centenarios — Alto Vinalopó, Alicante
Working with restored century-old clay amphoras and organically farmed local vineyards in inland Alicante, David Carbonell and Richard Kelley MW are reviving forgotten traditions while creating wines with a distinctly modern feel. From fragrant skin-contact whites to elegant Mediterranean reds, the wines combine purity, texture and freshness, offering a fascinating expression of Alicante’s historic winemaking heritage.
