August Eser
This family run estate embraces 11 hectares of vines at 17 sites and on various soils - sand, loess, marl and clay, mostly on the south-facing slopes overlooking the Rhine in the crook of the Rheingau elbow. Désirée Eser Freifrau zu Knyphausen runs the estate with her husband Dodo Freiherr zu Knyhausen and both are winemakers, having studied oenology at the renowned Geisenheim school. Désirée took over the running of the estate from her parents to become the 10th generation winemaker of the family. They nurture their riesling and pinot noir vines taking great care to be as sustainable as possible, eschewing the use of pesticides, and using solar power at their 17th century winery and cellars in Oestrich.
