Simonsig Jamala Gewürztraminer, Coastal Region 2025
White Wine from South Africa - Coastal Region
Simonsig are one of very few Cape producers who champion gewürztraminer, first planted on the farm in 1973, with their Jamala bottling - a lovely, typical and excellent value example of this perfumed grape. Sourced from their own estate as well as from trusted growers (they simply don't have enough on the farm to fulfil demand), this is off-dry in feel with a tangy orange freshness tempering the sweetness. Scented with classic rose petal aromas, there is a zesty lemon and grapefruit character too, making this a dream with citrussy-based sauces as well as Thai-influenced cuisine.

Simonsig Wine Estate
Simonsig is one of the most respected producers in the Cape wine industry, established in the 1950s just outside Stellenbosch. It is owned and run by the Malan family and winemaking is overseen by Johan and his son Michael.
Their wide range is perhaps best known for two wines: their highly regarded red Cape Blend, which pays tribute to Frans Malan, visionary patriarch and founder of Simonsig; and Kaapse Vonkel, the first South African sparkling wine made according to the traditional method, known in South Africa as Méthode Cap Classique, back in 1971 and therefore celebrating its - and the appellation's - 50th anniversary in 2021.
