La Rioja Alta

Founded in 1890 by five families, La Rioja Alta is one of Rioja’s most resolutely traditional bodegas. Based in Haro’s historic Barrio de la Estación, it now commands over 700ha of vineyards across Rioja, Rías Baixas and Ribera del Duero. La Rioja Alta excels in classically styled Reservas and Gran Reservas, given considerable cask ageing. What sets the bodega apart is that its wines retain striking vigour and fruit throughout their lengthy maturation. They are released only when fully ready to drink and always have an air of graceful maturity.

La Rioja Alta Ardanza Rioja 2004 (Ex-Bodega 2026)

Code: SP7981A1
Red
La Rioja Alta, a family-run firm founded in 1890, has, through the years, built up a huge vineyard of more than 300 hectares. The bodega is perhaps the best producer of the very traditional style of Rioja, that is a wine of medium structure given long cask ageing and frequent racking producing a wine with evolved brick red colour at the rim, an intense bouquet of leather and tobacco and soft tannins. What sets La Rioja Alta apart from other traditionalists is that their wines also retain plenty of sweetness, vigour and flavour on the palate. They keep barrels for about seven years, so the average age is 3.5 years. Viña Ardanza is aged three years in barrels with six rackings.
