First release: Ridge Ponzo Zinfandel 2022

A rather different expression of Ridge zinfandel, from the cooler Russian River Valley, where the morning fog hangs around a little longer and the grapes ripen more slowly. Ponzo is a lovely vineyard, with some vines dating back to 1952, and the 2022 was picked just ahead of the intense September heatwave. Bright raspberry and red cherry fruit, a little clove spice and a lovely tart cranberry freshness. Medium-bodied, with supple tannins and plenty of fruit, but nothing feels heavy or overworked. Really elegant zinfandel, with a long, fresh finish and plenty of life ahead of it. Drink from 2027 to 2032. 14.3%
