Branaire-Ducru is one of the true sleeper wines of the vintage, slipping quietly under the radar despite being, in our view, one of the standout successes of the year. The wine already shows an impressive sense of completeness – fully formed and utterly assured in the glass, with superb purity and a distinctive mineral edge. A blend of 62% cabernet sauvignon, 26% merlot, 6% cabernet franc and 6% petit verdot, it will be matured in 55% new oak and comes in at a poised 13.2% alcohol.
